Our History

Cropley McGhee Architects is a full service architectural firm founded in Fredericksburg as James O. McGhee Architects in 1985. In late 2018, James O. McGhee partnered with Joel D. Cropley to create Cropley McGhee Architects. Through our extensive history in this area we have proudly worked with some of the most iconic buildings in this area, including Old Fredericksburg Courthouse, Stafford and Spotsylvania County courthouses, Fredericksburg City Hall (previously U.S. Post Office), the Fredericksburg Train Station (currently the Bavarian Chef restaurant), Fredericksburg Baptist Church, Fredericksburg Marriott, and numerous other commercial and residential projects.
